Ecstatica FAQs
Cacao FAQ
Our cacao comes from the Sierra Nevada region of northern Colombia. It is sourced directly from a cooperative of farmers who grow and produce cacao using sustainable practices and in close collaboration with their local communities.
Ecstatica’s founder, Yasmin, has visited the farm multiple times and built a personal relationship with one of the cooperative’s key coordinators. This direct connection allows us to maintain quality, transparency, and care in every batch we share.
Our cacao is organically grown using sustainable farming practices within a cooperative model that supports fair working conditions and community development. We work directly with the source to maintain integrity and transparency in the supply chain.
Our cacao is made from 100% pure cacao beans and minimally processed to preserve its natural flavour and properties. It contains no additives, emulsifiers, or added sugar.
For us, ceremonial grade also speaks to how the cacao is shared. It is intended to be prepared and consumed with presence and intention, whether in personal ritual or community gathering.
Making cacao ceremonial is less about doing something special and more about how you show up to it.
Slow down while you prepare it. Be aware of what you’re adding and why. As you stir, think about how you would like to feel, or what you need support with right now.
You might ask yourself:
• How do I want to feel today?
• What feels unclear in my life?
• What would I like guidance on?
You can write these questions down before you drink, or sit with them afterwards. Give yourself space to listen. That might look like journalling, dancing in your living room, going for a walk, or simply sitting quietly.
If you can, try drinking your cacao outside. Nature and cacao are a beautiful combination.
Chop or grate 20g to 40g of cacao and gently heat it with your choice of plant milk or water. We love using organic coconut milk/drink for a creamy, rounded flavour.
Simmer on a very low heat for around 30 minutes, stirring regularly. Avoid boiling, as high heat can affect both flavour and quality. Once heated, allow it to rest for a further 20 to 30 minutes to let the flavours blend and settle before drinking.
You can keep it simple or add spices such as cinnamon, cayenne, vanilla or a natural sweetener to taste. However, we do always recommend adding pinches of flakey sea salt to balance the flavour.
For a daily ritual, 15g to 20g is usually enough. For a deeper ceremonial experience, 30g to 40g is commonly used.
Listen to your body and adjust according to how you feel.
Cacao contains a natural stimulant called theobromine rather than high levels of caffeine. The effect is often described as gentle and heart opening rather than jittery.
Everyone responds differently, so start with a smaller amount if you are unsure.
Cacao is generally safe for most people when consumed in moderation.
However, if you are pregnant, sensitive to stimulants, or taking medication that affects the heart or mood, we recommend consulting a healthcare professional before consuming larger ceremonial amounts.
Always listen to your body.
Yes, you can. It is completely safe to eat in its solid bar form.
It has a rich, slightly sweet, and intense chocolate flavour. Some people enjoy shaving a little over porridge or smoothies, while others simply break off a piece and let it melt slowly in the mouth.
Store your cacao in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. It does not need to be refrigerated. Proper storage will preserve flavour and quality.
Once it has been prepared into a drink, you can leave it in the fridge for up to 3 days (dependant on the type of milk you've used).
